Why We Have To Talk.

It’s a new year here at Simply Devine and as I reflect a bit on the past and look ahead to the future, I find myself thinking about something that just needs to be shared (again…and probably again).

 

Whenever something goes wrong during a wedding, it’s almost always because someone was confused or didn’t get the message. When a wedding turns out perfectly, it’s usually because people clearly understood where to be, when to be there, what to do, how to do it and who would be involved.

 

Communication, my friends. It is my First Commandment. I believe so much in communication that I never charge for it. Ever. Smooth, open communication is the key to a successful business—why would I charge for something that makes my life easier? And yes, I realize we are living in a time when communication consists of abbreviated text messages. I’m fine with that. Send me an abbreviated text message. Tell me what you want. Tell me what you need. Tell me yes. Tell me no. I don’t care how you tell me—phone, email, text, Facebook, carrier pigeon—just tell me. You have no idea how much it means to me (well, you are probably starting to get an idea).

 

While open communication is something I really stress and encourage with my brides, it gets a little trickier with my vendors. But honestly, I’m sticking with my First Commandment. You wonderful, talented people have got to communicate with me. I know you are busy and it’s not always easy to answer the phone, but usually all I’m looking for is a simple yes or no. Are you available? Are you interested? Can I book you? I WANT to refer you and boast about you and so we can help each other…plus I have a bride here who is an absolute dream to work with with endless money and a fairy tale vision…so text me back, ok?

 

I don’t mean to preach (much), and I hope no one takes this post personally. I just believe in the value of communication and I hope I shed a little light on why it’s so important to you, me and my business. But it’s not just that. I think it’s the basis of Life Success 101. Timely communication is polite, respectful and it makes people feel valued.  What do you think?
